Maju Expressway, the Gateway to the Nation hosts first ever KL Vintage & Classic Car Convoy to Putrajaya

Sleek, unique machines ply the shortest KL – Putrajaya route.

PUTRAJAYA -- 18 March 2008 --- Needing to get to Putrajaya from Dataran Merdeka effortlessly and without hassle, more than 80 vintage and classic cars dazzling grandly in the afternoon sun drove in an impressive procession through the Maju Expressway on Sunday, 16th March 2008. For the first time, the KL Vintage & Classic Car Concours was conducted in two locations.

In previous years, the event was held at Dataran Merdeka in KL but this year to make the event a bigger, better extension of the previous KL Vintage & Classic Car Concours and to showcase Putrajaya as a tourist destination, the event included a prize giving ceremony at Dataran Putra in Putrajaya. The newly built state-of-the-art Maju Expressway (E20) provided participants and officials a driving experience of sheer pleasure and joy.

During the event, only three (3) unfortunate vehicles did not make it to the finish line and instead had to be towed by tow trucks which were standing by. The Maju Expressway Ronda and Traffic team also swung into action when one (1) of the participants’ vehicles caught a minor fire near the Putrajaya toll plaza. Fortunately the incident was professionally managed by our own Expressway patrolmen.

The KL Vintage & Classic Car Concours event was held in conjunction with the 6th Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix City celebrations and was co – organized by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), Sepang International Circuit (SIC) and Kuala Lumpur Tourism Action Council (KLTAC) in collaboration with the Malaysia and Singapore Vintage Car Register (MSVCR).

The magnificent American Cadillac strolled down the lane.
This pint-sized classic was not forgotten in this event.
A vintage classic that spells elegance by its design, reminiscent of a bygone era.
A vintage cruising side by side with the mean Pontiac Firebird classic.
One of the few unfortunates which broke down along the way.
Another vintage vehicle that did not make it to the chequered flag.
The drama unfolds when a participant’s vehicle caught a minor fire.
The Maju Expressway Ronda and Traffic team contributed their expertise to keep the situation under control.
Any potentially hazardous situation must be viewed with extra precaution as safety comes first.
