Maju Expressway joins forces with Jabatan Bomba & Penyelamat
Experts exchanging and enhancing knowledge.
Putrajaya – 5 February 2008 – A Haz-mat chemical spill from a tanker and two cars colliding in a massive accident today saw personnel from the Maju Expressway Ronda Team joining forces with Jabatan Bomba & Penyelamat, Traffic Police and Hospital Serdang in an effort to contain contamination from the chemicals and to save the injured in a mock drill exercise at the Expressway’s Rest and Service Area.
The drill was participated by Jabatan Bomba & Penyelamat from their stations in Bukit Jalil, Seri Kembangan, Cyberjaya, Sentul and Hang Tuah, Traffic Police from Subang station, Hospital Serdang and Maju Ronda and Traffic team and its auxiliary police.
The event was witnessed by Konsortium Lapangan Terjaya Sdn Bhd Executive Chairman; Yg. Bhg Tan Sri Mohd Bakri bin Hj Omar and its Managing Director/Chief Executive; Mr. How Hoe Heam and Jabatan Bomba & Penyelamat Malaysia Director General; Dato’ Hamzah bin Abu Bakar and En. Mohamed Hamdan Wahid of Jabatan Bomba Kuala Lumpur Director.
The mock drill was jointly organized to
- Familiarize the various district authorities on the fastest routes on to the new Maju Expressway.
- Practice and hone skills while exploring the most efficient method possible to save lives on highways.
- Put into action the KL - Putrajaya Expressway’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP) to better translate theoretical procedures into practical exercises, thus enhancing rescue and assistance skills for the safety of motorists.
- Create a better understanding of each other’s expertise and to enhance knowledge and coordination.
To orchestrate the mock drill, Jabatan Bomba & Penyelamat made full use of every equipment and machinery available, such as two MI 171 Helicopters, a Haz-mat truck, Rapid Intervention Motorcycles (RIM) and an Emergency Medical Service (EMS) ambulance.
According to Tan Sri Mohd Bakri bin Hj Omar, Executive Chairman of Konsortium Lapangan Terjaya Sdn Bhd, these joint exercises are an excellent way for Maju Expressway operations personnel and relevant authorities to work together and familiarize themselves with each others’ practices.
Maju Expressway which stretches for 26km is an expressway that links Kuala Lumpur (KL) to Putrajaya/Cyberjaya and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). With a shorter route and without the hassle of traffic congestion, it takes only 20 minutes to travel from KL to the Federal Government Administrative Center in Putrajaya and 30 minutes to KLIA.
Konsortium Lapangan Terjaya Sdn Bhd has been entrusted and given the responsibility by Government to design, construct, operate, maintain and manage the 26 km Expressway.
