SAFETY
From the outset, MESB intended that MEX should afford the highest level of security and comfort to users of the Expressway. MESB has installed a host of safety features on the Expressway including a state-of-the-art Traffic Control and Surveillance System (TCSS) that comprises vehicle detectors and closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras. The TCSS Centre has a direct link to local Emergency Authorities to facilitate immediate assistance in the event of an emergency. It can also supply the media with the current status of traffic on MEX for immediate dissemination to the public.
MEX Ronda is an expressway patrol ever ready to aid drivers who require assistance on the Expressway such as during a vehicle breakdown. Other safety features are emergency telephones and Variable Message Signs along MEX.
MEX also provides a 24-hour dedicated security patrol service. Manned by professionally trained security personnel, this security patrol service is provided along MEX and at the Rest and Service Areas. Notably, the entire Expressway is fully lit at night which contributes to driving comfort and safety.
COMFORT
The two Rest and Service Areas, which are WiFi hotspots, have been invitingly designed to offer travellers an irresistible opportunity to break their journey for some welcome refreshments. The buildings at the Rest and Service Areas exhibit vernacular architecture and facilities in operation include food and beverage outlets, convenience stalls, amenities and Surau (Muslim prayer room). Additional facilities, which are slated for development in each Rest and Service Area, are Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs), an Information Centre, petrol stations, a children’s playground and a wakaf (gazebo) in traditional architecture. To create a warm and hospitable Malaysian village ambience, the Rest and Service Areas are artistically landscaped.
